Plaiaundi den self-service motako jatetxe honetan bapo jan daitekela esango ligukete hemen ostatuz egoten diren hegaztiek.

Hemen adibidez, ezustekoan harrapatutako argazki hauetan dagoen Kaskabeltzak bere asea jaten du. Hankaz eta mokoaz baliaturik, ar gizarajo bat heltzen du gero paparrean sartzeko.

Eta beste argazkiotan, Arrano-arrantzale bat harrapatu berri duen arrainarekin zer egingo duen pentsatzen ari da. Azkenean, aireportu aldera hegan egiten joaten da arraina atzaparretan, surfista baten antzera.

It's a tireless bird that likes flying out for flys or dropping to the ground. It becomes elusive after nesting.

We could see a few individuals near the freshwater lake and all arround the San Lorenzo lagoon.

Y la vida sigue...

Desde primeros de abril se están viendo pequeñas bolas peludas que nadan sobre las aguas de la laguna dulce. Negras como el azabache, las crías de Focha presentan también tonalidades amarillas y rojas muy llamativas en la cabeza.

Suelen ser presa fácil para las gaviotas, que se posan sobre la cámara de vídeo que hay en en el centro de la laguna, desde donde, ante el mínimo descuido de la mamá focha, se lanzan a robarle sus crías para darse un festín.

Txoriak

Azken egunotan zailagoa egiten ari zait txori behaketa parkeko zuhaitzek gero eta hosto gehiago dutelako. Hala ere, pazientzia piska bat hartuz eta zorte pilo batekin, zenbait txori harrapatu ahal izan ditut nire kamerarekin.

Once upon a time there was an ugly duckling

In "The Ugly Duckling" tale written by Hans Christian Andersen, the first character was a cignet like those in the pictures. I saw them yesterday in the morning in Jaitzubia, near Plaiaundi. 

There were three of them swimming along with their parents and I can swear that anyone of them was ugly but beautiful.

Check it with your own eyes.

Limícolas con plumaje de verano

Parece como si esta semana las limícolas se hubieran puesto de acuerdo para mudar sus plumas. Hace pocos días podíamos observar correlimos, chorlitos y otras especies que aún mantenían su plumaje de invierno, pero cada día van acercándose a Plaiaundi individuos de diversas especies que muestran sus llamativos tonos veraniegos.

Azken egunotan hegazti oso gutxi ikusi ditugu Plaiaundin; alde batetik, askok alde egin dutelako, eta bestetik, ez dugulako hegazti migratzaileen izpirik eduki. Iparralderantz beste bideren bat hartu ei dute.

Hala ere, Txinbo Kaskabeltz bikote pare bat ikusi dugu egunero. Parkeko edozein tokitan topa ditzakegu, San Lorenzoko aintzira inguruan, basoan, Itzaberrin...

Sedge Warbler

The Sedge Warbler is a migrating bird in this area. It likes wetlands, especially reedbed. I found it yesterday  in the shore of the freshwater lake in Plaiaundi. It was very active flying all time near the water.

De Sorpresa en Sorpresa

Estos últimos días, al llegar al parque, parece que vas a ver poca cosa. La verdad es que el número de indivíduos de cada especie es muy reducido, pero, aunque parezca mentira, la variedad de especies que se puede ver es cada vez más abundante. Por ejemplo, hoy el parque nos ha obsequiado con la presencia de algunas celebrities que llevábamos tiempo sin ver.

Basahatetxo bitxiak

Atzo goizean Basahate eme bat ikusi genuen ahatetxo batzuk erasotzen. Nonbait ez ziren bereak. Beraz, ziztu bizian handik alde egin zuten bere benetako amaren atzetik. 

Egoere hori maiz ematen da ahatetxoen artean, ez baitakite bere ama nor den oso ondo bereizten. Baina gehien harritu gintuena izan zen, haien artean hiru, guztiz horiak zirela. Albinoak? Beste espezie baten umeak? Basahate emeak beste espezie baten umetxoak onartzea arraroa iruditzen zait. "Ahatetxo itsusia" ipuineko protagonistak izango al dira?

After the hailstorm

This morning, a strong hailstorm took us unawares in Plaiaundi. Thanks God, we sheltered quickly in a hide and waited for the storm to go before carrying on our stroll through the park. It seemed that many birds had been hidden somewhere trying to avoid the impact of the hail. After finishing the storm, several birds couldn't help flapping their wet wings and jumping from bush to tree and the other way round without stopping a while. Under that hustle and bustle, a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker turned up suddenly and I didn't miss the chance of taking a picture of it.

Cernidos sobre las aguas

Txenada Hankabeltza - Charrán Patinegro - Sandwich Tern

Estos últimos días estamos disfrutando de la presencia de varios Charranes Patinegros que sobrevuelan las orillas de Itzaberri y de la regata de Jaitzubia. Recorren las aguas con su vuelo ligero y elegante tratando de localizar algún pececillo, y cuando dan con él, se lanzan en picado para atraparlo.

Esta mañana, durante la marea alta, un grupo de diez Charranes Patinegros se ha puesto las botas lanzándose sobre la marisma de Itzaberri para pescar.

Si no fuera porque al zambullirse no saltaban chispas, hubiéramos pensado que se trataba de la traca final de unos fuegos artificiales, pues allí iban los charranes, lanzados uno detrás de otro en pos de los pezqueñines.

Parkeko aintziratan edo zuhaitzetan baino, atzoko ikuskizuna gorago zegoen. Egunero parke gainetik hegan ikusten diren Kaioez gain, atzoko zerua enarez josita ikus genezakeen. Enara Arrunt eta Ugalde-enara ugari zegoen. Harritzekoa da haien arteko talkarik ez gertatzea, hegaldi hain azkarra eta akrobatikoa duten. 

Noiz behinka, enarek ur gezeko aintzirako zuhaitxoetan etenalditxoren bat egiten zuten; une egokia argazkiak ateratzeko nahiz eta haize handia zegoen.

Cortejo de Chorlitejo Chico

Desde hace unos días, un Chorlitejo Chico macho trata de seducir a una hembra en la gravera de Txoritegi. El proceder del mnacho siempre es el mismo. Primero, busca un lugar apropiado para la nidificación; un terreno hondo donde se agazapa para, a continuación, extender su cola y llamar la atención de la hembra.

-Cariño ven, que ya he encontrado nuestro nidito de amor.

La hembra se acerca a inspeccionar la hondonada y, de paso, también estudia al macho para ver si le interesa formar pareja con él..

-Mmmm...-piensa la hembra- no sé si me termina de convencer...

Entonces la hembra, algo dubitativa, se larga.

Pero el macho no da su brazo a torcer y busca otra hondonada para ofrecérsela a la hembra.Vuelve a cortejarla con sus armas de seducción. Pero esta vez, la hembra tampoco está dispuesta y se va.

Azken egunotan Lertxun Hauskara bakarti bat ikusi dugu. Badirudi bere kideak jada iparralderantz edo joan egin direla. Gure laguna han zebilen, ibaiertzean, harrapatu berri zeukan platuxa bat jan nahiean. Mokoarekin hartu eta irensten saiatzen ari zen behin eta berriro, baina nonbait ez zuen platuxa mokoarekin modu egokian heltzen eta ezin zuen paparoratu. Azkenean, milagarrenean lortu zuen, zorionez. Bitartean argazki sorta bat atera nion, eta den-denak elkarrekin irudi bakar batean jarri ditut. Ez dira bost, bat besterik ez. Basahateak berriz bi dira, arra eta emea.

Ducklings

We've already seen the first brood of ducklings of the season. Initially, they were twenty four but today there were only twelve left. Although adults look after their offspring, sometimes they can do little to protect them against predators as birds of prey and gulls. It's the law of nature.

Ayer pudimos capturar con nuestra cámara un montón de especies que nos faltaban en nuestra colección. Algunas de ellas se suelen ver en Plaiaundi, pero otras no. Preening

Today it wasn't as successful as the day before yesterday because I took few photographs. Even so, I had the chance to see two Buzzards, three Little Ringed Ploves, migrating Woodpigeons, some Firecrests, Sand Martins, Teals, ... I think I saw a pair of Ring Ouzels too, but they were so faraway that I can't assure that.

I've uploaded today's some photos as well as some shots taken days before. All of them are pictures of birds that were preening. That's an activity they often do.

Un día lleno de sorpresas

Por fin ha empezado la primavera. Y además, ha empezado con fuerza pues hoy hemos tenido la suerte de ver bastantes aves nuevas para nuestra colección. 

Por la mañana, nos han dado la bienvenida al parque con su canto un grupo de Currucas Capirotadas.

Listado semanal de aves

Antes de enumerar las aves que he podido observar durante la semana en Plaiaundi, me gustaría destacar las novedades:

• La gravera del Chorlitejo, al lado de la laguna de agua dulce, se ve atestada de Chorlitejos al anochecer. Pero creo que todos ellos son Chorlitejos Grandes. No hemos tenido ocasión de volver a ver la pareja de Chorlitejos Chicos que vimos la semana anterior.

• El martes vimos pasar dos bandos de Cigüeñas Blancas compuestos de unos veinte individuos cada uno. Además, tres Buitres Leonados se aventuraron a surcar los cielos de Plaiaundi. 
•  El miércoles al anochecer vi una pareja de Camachuelos Comunes que no supe lo que eran hasta el viernes, cuando conseguí una fotografía del macho.
• Aunque la semana anterior a ésta ya pudimos ver un grupo de Aviones Roqueros, este jueves hemos empezado a observar otro grupito acompañado de un Avión Común y una Golondrina Común.

• El viernes, vimos muy a lo lejos, desde Itzaberri, una hembra de Negrón Común. Se encontraba cerca del bidegorri de Hendaia y vimos cómo alzaba el vuelo en dirección al aeropuerto.
• El sábado hizo su aparición la primera Aguililla Calzada de la temporada.

Espezie eta indibiduo gutxi ikusi ditugu gaur Plaiaundin, gaurkoa egun euritsua izan baita. Atzoko eguraldia, ordea, eguzkitsua izan zen eta zeruak oskarbi-uneak erakutsi zizkigun.
Bi hegazti harrapakari ikusi genituen urrutian. Pixkanaka-pixkanaka gerturatzen hasi zitzaiguten haietako bat gain-gainean izan genuen arte. Kliskatzeari ekin nion eta ezin izan nion utzi kamerak ia-ia kea botatzen hasi zuen arte.

Etxera iritsi ginenean, argazkietako hegaztia Arrano Txiki bat dela ikusi nuen hegaztien gidan. Gazteleraz Aguililla Calzada.eta ingelesez Booted Eagle. Ez da oinetakoengatik izango, ezta?

Bullfinch

I was lately seeking to take a picture of a Bullfinch and finally I got it!

I think there were probably two individuals, a male and a female, because on Wednesday at dusk I saw the couple. But today I could only see the male. Beautiful indeed!

It's a quiet, inconspicuous bird  despite its bright colours. If disturbed, it moves out of sight through a thicket or hedge. It uses its round bill to feed on soft buds, flowers, and shoots rather than hard seeds.

¡Qué frío!

Es increible que la semana pasada estuviéramos en mangas de camisa. Hoy la sensación térmica ha sido muy baja, sobretodo en la zona de Itzaberri donde siempre corre más aire que en el resto del parque. Por eso, hemos ido al parque vestidos como cebollas; o sea, con un montón de capas de ropa.

Los montes cercanos como Aiako Harria y Jaizkibel estaban cubiertos por una fina capa de nieve.
